Be An Eagle

10 06 2009

As we talked about rising above it last week, to explain this concept further, let’s look at it this way…..rising above it is really is a call for each of us to challenge ourselves to Be An Eagle.  When I think of an eagle, I think of a bird that surpasses all others.  As a matter of fact, an eagle can fly to heights so great that they exceed every other bird.  Webster’s dictionary describes an eagle as “a bird noted for their strength, size, keenness of vision, and powers of flight.”    When I think of Eagles, I also think of this bible verse…

But those who wait on the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint.” – Isaiah 40:31

So if those that wait on the Lord will mount up on wings like eagles, then if we can focus on God and not what we may be going through it means we are mounting up with wings like eagles and soaring above it.  When we can keep a positive attitude through it ALL, this means we are soaring on wings like eagles.  If we can trust that all that we are going through is for purpose, than we can Be an Eagle and soar to great heights.  If we are each an Eagle, even when we are not going through something it is REALLY not allowing the pigeons and chickens to get to us as we fly to greater heights – translation – when the haters, hate on you, you don’t allow it to affect you, you rise above it and hold your head up high.  If we are each an eagle we SOAR, we ascend to a higher or more exalted level  – translation – your attitude depicts your altitude so the more positive you are the higher the altitude which means that you are operating on  a more exalted level.  Staying in a negative place or allowing yourself to have a negative demeanor, attitude etc… just keeps you on the ground, not able to SOAR to great heights or to really fly at all let alone as high as you can possibly fly. It means you are that crab in the barrel (ya know that old saying) and you are keeping yourself down never to rise above!   If we are each an Eagle, we have keenness of vision – translation – we are keeping our eyes on the PRIZE and not allowing the storms that come to take us off of our path.  It is also that keenness of vision that allows you to tap into that inner urge (which is God’s voice whispering to us) to know a storm is coming so that you can put on your holy armor and be ready to withstand it.  You see, an Eagle allows the storm to become its foot stool as the lessons learned from every storm take you just that much higher to rise above even more! Only if you are being an eagle that is!  An Eagle is strong, determined, focused, confident, unwavering, steadfast, tenacious and definitely knows and dwells in her power….do I need to go on?   Maybe this will help illustrate this concept of Being an Eagel even further.

“Soar Like an Eagle” By Unknown author

Did you know that an eagle knows when a storm is
approaching long before it breaks? The eagle will fly
to some high spot and wait for the winds to come.

When the storm hits, it sets its wings so that the
wind will pick it up and lift it above the storm.
While the storm rages below, the eagle is soaring
above it.

The eagle does not escape the storm. It simply uses
the storm to lift it higher. It rises on the winds
that bring the storm. When the storms of life come
upon us – and all of us will experience them – we can
rise above them by setting our minds and our belief
toward God. The storms do not have to overcome us. We
can allow God’s power to lift us above them.
God enables us to ride the winds of the storm that
bring sickness, tragedy, failure and disappointment
in our lives. We can soar above the storm.

Remember, if we are really honest to ourselves,
it is not the burdens of life that weigh us
down, it is how we handle them.

So ladies it’s time for each of us to learn how to be an Eagle and rise above negative situations, circumstances, people, places and things so that all the positive will define our altitude and allow us to fly to GREAT heights.  As we become like an Eagle, we are able to stay focused on becoming the woman that God has ordained us each to become!

The Eagle ” by Emily M. Parris

The eagle is a magnificent bird
Who soars with graceful ease
She’s a symbol of our heritage
As she glides upon the breeze

She’s a symbol of our freedom
In her soaring boundless flight
A beacon for humanity
And a splendid, noble sight

Her huge wingspan maneuvers her
In boundless soaring flight
Oh eagle, in your majesty
May we follow you tonight

May we soar like eagles on the wings
Of dreams composed of light
Oh, eagle, in your splendor
May we follow you tonight

I really enjoyed this week’s blog. I begin to reflect on my Life’s Journey. I revisited the many, many high and low points in my life . How I handled the low points was more of an interest to me. I revisited a few “stories” and realized how I struggled to rise above the situation. In my struggleS I realized what’s important and what was not important. At that time I now know I stayed on the ground with the “TURKEYS” too long.

I continued my journey through several of my life situations and began to see my growth in how I have matured and still growing— and can truly say “As I gain altitude and join the eagles in flight, the lessons I have learned while struggling will truly help me “SOAR w/the EAGLES”.

Amen! Love the storm analogy. Who knew! Eagles don’t hang out with chickens and pigeons either. They have beaks, feathers & wings, but the similarities end there. If we could understand bird chatter, I wonder what pigeons, chickens and swallows think of the Eagle. They’re probably eagle haters, yet the eagle soars anyhow…Aside from the pecking at roadkill for my meals and catching rodents in my talons, I want to be an eagle.
