Finding the Good

29 07 2010

As each of us focuses on making “A String of Pearls” and we look at the Fruits of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22) there are 9 pearls that we will focus on cultivating and growing in 2010.  (See our Theme for 2010 tab above for more information on all 9) Here we start our look at our last, Pearl 6 – GOODNESS

We have covered quite a bit of territory since we began our blog for 2010 in January.  It really is interesting how all of the fruits we have talked about up to this point are summed up with this ……finding the good.   In any situation we face in life we have a choice, we can either try to find the good in it or we can stay focused on the bad.  If we focus on finding good then we can usually find a lesson in a mistake, promote success out of failure, look forward to the rainbow after a storm,  turn happiness out of sadness.  It all starts with the discovery of that little light in people, places, situations and circumstances.   In every bit of darkness a little light must fall!  So how do we go about finding the good?

1st you must know your own greatness!

Everyone one of us has a special gift!! Your gift is not my gift. It is YOURS!!!   Each of us has some unique quality, trait, craft etc….  Once you know who you are and you realize what your gift is, it is when you are TRULY functioning in that gift, that your light shines for all  to see.  So once we get that light to shine, the trick is to keep that switch flipped on.   Pretty much to find the good in our selves as well as things that are happening around us we must know what we are really afraid of….

“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that frightens us most. We ask ourselves, ‘Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, and famous?’ Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that people won’t feel insecure around you. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It’s not just in some of us; it’s in all of us. And when we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.” -Maryanne Williamson

So once you find your light and you live in, you can move to #2.

2nd don’t be afraid of the dark.

When you come across someone who is mean or rude or something happens in your life that some how hurts you, don’t let this thing turn off your light.  This is what I mean by not being afraid of the dark.   Don’t be afraid of who you are and at the same time don’t allow things to come in and steak your joy and rob you of the gift that you are!  We all must fight to stay focused on what is good in life and not let the bad shut off our own light.   So when you are driving down the street and someone cuts you off (this happens to me all the time!!!) we can either let that person take control by allowing our light to dim as we start rolling our neck and going off on folk.  Or we can find the good and keep on smiling.  We find the good when we focus on the fact that if you weren’t paying attention you would have hit that car and  so you stop and say thank ya Lord that I was not in a rush and saw that crazy driver.   This all comes down to having will power! Do you really want people to control you or be able to flip your switch or do you want to control your own light!   Don’t let people, situations or circumstances come in and flip your switch and ultimately mess up your day!   When I feel like I am becoming afraid of the dark, I personally say to myself I am not going to let that person steal my joy!!!!  Or sometimes I say, they are not going to steal my ticket to heaven.  Or there is also a little thing I do with my hands that means to let it go (if you ever see me ask me to show you what I do) I encourage you to find a method that works for you and refrain from letting people ruin your whole day.  Don’t be afraid to deal with situations with a little love, joy, peace, patience and kindness and what how stars appear in the darkest sky, what how folks begin to give you favor because you treat then so wonderfully, what ho God moves mountains for you just because you have the right attitude!

Over the coming weeks we will focus on how to live with goodness in our heart but for now take a moment to stop and smell the flowers, find the good and while you do remember to let your light shine!!!!!  Over this next week, really think about who you are and how you can allow yourself to become that much brighter!!!

Let your light shine. Shine within you so that it can shine on someone else. Let your light shine. – Oprah Winfrey
