Expand your Territory

10 02 2011

This whole talk of it’s time for a demolition and the notion of tearing down makes me ask the question, well what’s the point of tearing down?  To expand your territory.   So what does this have to do with tearing down?  Well the whole point of tearing things down is because you want to build the new structure bigger and better.  After all what would be the point if you wanted to make an improvement if it wasn’t going to be better?  With that said why not do the absolute best with your new and build yourself back up bigger and better than ever and expand your vision, your life, your territory .

“And Jabez called on the God of Israel saying, “Oh, that You would bless me indeed, and enlarge my territory, that Your hand would be with me, and that You would keep me from evil, that I may not cause pain.” So God granted him what he requested.” – I Chronicles 4:10

There is a small book called The Prayer of Jabez by Bruce Wilkinson.  The book really is about what happens when ordinary folks decide to reach for an extraordinary life.   Basically this book asks, “Do you want a bigger vision for your life?”  Well the author of this book was asked the same question by his seminary teacher only after thet question he asked another question, “Sign up to be a gimper for God.”  If you are like me, you are probably saying to yourself, what the heck is a gimper? As his professor explained it to him, a gimper is someone who always does a little more than what’s required or expected.”    Just as Jabez did.

“Now Jabez was more honorable than his brothers….” – I Chronicles 4:9a

So to truly expand your territory,  you must do a little more than what is expected right?  Well that is exactly what the prayer of Jabez is talking about. When we are born, we are each given gifts. Some of us know what they are and are working in them, some of us are not.  Some of us know what they are but we allow fear, hurt, resentment, thinking that we are ready or don’t have enough time or money to start working within our gift right now.  Well if we all thought hat way there would be no Oprah, no Barak Obama, there would be no Condoleezza Rice, no Cornell West.  There would be no Beyonce, no Raven Simon, there would be no doctors, lawyers, counselors, teachers.  No just plain do only your job only kind of folks but folks like Marva Collins who started her own school in her home so that black children could receive a quality education.   The point is, whatever your gift is, whatever you are good at, whatever you are called to do…it is time to expand your territory and do it well!  Go over and above just mediocre and do it phenomenally!  Yes Phenomenal woman that is what each if us should be!

“If a man is called to be a street sweeper, he should sweep streets even as Michelangelo painted, or Beethoven composed music, or Shakespeare wrote poetry. He should sweep streets so well that all the hosts of heaven and earth will pause to say, here lived a great street sweeper who did his job well.” – Martin Luther King

You see just as Jabez wants to succeed and increase his sphere of influence for God.  By becoming the woman you were meant to be that is EXACTLY how you increase your sphere of influence for God.  How you may ask, well when you are being the most positive person you can be.  You are letting nothing or no one hold you back and are truly exercising your gifts, do you know what happens?  You shine!!!!!

“Let your light so shine before men (and women), that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.” – Matthew 5:16

So our mission here as we prepare the blueprint and begin to build our design in March is to truly create a vision for yourself and your future that is not limited by the current time and space you occupy.  It is only limited by how far your faith can take you.

“Commit your works to the LORD, and your thoughts will be established.” – Proverbs 16:3

It is important for us to take note that the prayer of Jabez was also calling Jabez calling himself to a higher self and a closer relationship with God.  It is time for each of us to make a commitment to not just work toward but to BE the women we were created to be.  To give God glory in ALL we do.  To let out lights shine for the whole world to see.  So ladies in what ways do you need to design your blueprint larger?  In what ways shall you expand your territory?

Prov 16:3 is one of the scriptures i include when i autograph my books! This week’s blog reminded me that as i work to become more spiritually mature, my mind will always b under construction & in tear down mode as i go to the throne of grace seeking brand new mercies every day. Just like in a home remodel, once you upgrade one room, you realize that the other rooms need sprucing up. As i grow in one area of my walk, i notice other areas that could use a Divine design makeover & the journey continues.
