Making Your Money Work for You

7 04 2011

She considers a field and buys it; from her profits she plants a vineyard. – Proverbs 31: 16

This bible verse is right after the one that talks about the Proverbs 31 woman rising early while it is still dark to prepare for her day.  Knowing this and reading the bible verse above, we see that this woman not only sets priorities in life but she also sets priorities with her money.  This is a woman who makes her money work for her as she takes her profits and puts it back into her business so that it continues to build and earn revenue.  So instead of taking the money she made and running to the mall to buy the latest bag or those new Jimmy Cho’s, she continues to build her business and in so doing secures more income for years to come. In essence she is making her money work for her. What does this mean to us?  Whether we are a business owner or an employee for someone else’s business? It means we MUST learn the power of saving & investing.

The art of saving and investing really does profoundly affect our future.  Without understanding either we will not have the necessary finances to achieve our long term financial goals like buying a home, having an annual vacation of our choosing, or even retiring comfortably.  Not taking time to learn about how you can make your money work for you would mean that you are not truly weighing out all of your financial options and this missed opportunity pretty much means you are living from pay check to pay check.  If this is the case, like most of us and you one pay check away from being homeless, what do you think can happen if you get hit with an expense you are not ready for?  You know your car breaks down; you need a medical procedure not covered by your insurance?  Anything of the like?  How will you pay for this without going into debt?  How will you be able to afford any financial goals you have set for your future?  It is a sad reality that many of us were never taught the art of saving and investing.  With this in mind here are few things that may give you a little insight;

  • Open a Savings Account – stop by your bank and speak to a personal banker to find out your options.
  • If you company has a 401K program.  SIGN UP for it!!!  There is nothing like a company who matches every dollar you save and some give you $2 for every $1 you give. How can you pass that up!!!!
  • Sign up for a class on investing.  You’d be surprised how many banks and local financial empowerment centers at churches or local business associations teach these classes for FREE.

Whatever you do, get informed!!!  By understanding and implementing saving and investment principles, financial freedom can be yours!!! Savings & Investing is the first step to begin to make your money work for you!

 “If you would be wealthy, think of saving as well as getting.” -Benjamin Franklin

 “Money was never a big motivation for me, except as a way to keep score. The real excitement is playing the game.” -Donald Trump
